I believe we all deserve the best home possible at any budget and if you let me, I will show you how small tweaks, smart buys and a little DIY can go a long way, sharing the knowledge I have accumulated over the years.

How it all started

Hi, I’m Melodie, the entrepreneur designer-maker behind A Softer Edge. I work mostly with copper pipes and jesmonite resin to create inspiring furniture for your home. But that’s a rather new development in my career so let’s go back a little…

I love learning new skills and making new things. In 2016, I made my first small piece of furniture using copper pipes. It was a magazine rack for my living room. And I got very excited about the endless possibilities. I started making more objects using copper pipes and before I knew it, I had a small collection coming together.

In 2018, I bought my first flat. My boyfriend and I always wanted a project so we basically bought a blank canvas, knocked down all the walls, tore away the floor and started from scratch. For the first time I could fully explore my passion for interior decor and create my dream home. I made custom furniture for us, using lots of copper and reclaimed material. I had so much fun that it gave me a thousand ideas to develop my home range.

With a fresh branding, I decided to focus all my creative energy into making modern furniture but above all I would like to inspire you to create your dream home.

Doing our bit for the planet

I don’t believe in waste.

All my materials are sourced in the UK and I use recycled bubble wrap and boxes for my packaging.

Any extra bits of jesmonite left from mixing is used to create terrazzo tiles !

Did you know?

  • I’m French and I grew up in the suburb of Paris (which is now one of my least favourite places to visit…)

  • My parents were antique dealers so I grew up around furniture that had a lot of history and the smell of wax always in the air.

  • I actually trained as a user-experience designer and a psychologist (which comes in handy when figuring out my customers’ requirements).

  • I moved to London to become a shoemaker (I already owned around 100 pairs of shoes at the time…)

  • I worked for a fetish footwear company (that was a lot of fun) and it inspired me to start my own business

  • I’m always on the lookout for old furniture on the street to up-cycle or refurbish

  • I’m definitely a cat person and my partner in crime is a fluffy, ginger, tabby tom called Fudge

  • I love crime shows and I’m a member of the “My Favorite Murder” fan cult (best podcast ever!!)
